Pain Management

Anyone who experiences ongoing pain will note the impact that it has on their quality of life. Chronic pain can be debilitating and inhibiting as it prevents many from engaging in daily activities. While the pain feels real and as person in pain shows physiological symptoms, the experience of pain is a combination of physiological (body) and psychological (mind) processes.

Pain is generally triggered by an initial injury or illness where the pain signals are consistently sent through the nervous system for recognition by the brain for weeks, months and sometimes even years. In some people, the injuries and illnesses have healed, however the pain signals may still remain in the nervous system for long periods of time and thus chronic pain persists. Some people also suffer from chronic pain despite no past injury or evidence of damage to the body.

As pain is an extremely common side effect of most injuries and illnesses, it is difficult for medical practitioners to measure and treat pain especially to often differentiate between which is a natural response of pain to an injury verses ongoing nervous system responses.

Hypnotherapy for pain management can be utilised either alongside prescribed medication or alone, however if considering hypnosis then it is essential you have been to visit your GP for an appropriate medical evaluation before proceeding. It is essential that all formal medical investigations and understanding of the condition are conducted prior to Hypnosis due to the removal of pain could result in misdiagnosis. Once thorough investigation has occurred by the medical practitioner, Hypnosis can commence.

Hypnotherapy has been successfully used by many to manage numerous instances of pain. The basic premise of hypnotherapy is to change the way individuals perceive pain messages in order to reduce the intensity of what they are feeling.

Results can be obtained through Hypnotherapy alone, however often results are enhanced through a number of techniques  including Time Line Therapy®, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and traditional psychological intervention techniques.

Please contact our friendly staff and we will be happy to chat to you about how hypnosis can help you achieve your goals.
